The Tombomb Wahine Classic began to advocate preservation of the Kona coastline, promote women's surfing and encourage community involvement. It is an all-girls surf contest and beach cleanup aimed at encouraging teamwork and camaraderie between women surfers. TWC 2014 will mark the 5th happening of this event.
The TWC is set up on a team format. Each team is made up of diverse water women from seasoned to rookie; shortboarder to longboarder and anywhere in between. Each team surfs together in a 'heat.'
Heats consist of one team surfing all together so each surfer is encouraged to push their teammates, share waves, and work toward a common score. Each individual surfer achieves a total score based on their top three scoring waves. The individual scores are added up to achieve a team score.
